Avalanche Activity

Natural moist avalanches are still possible. Caution is to be exercised in particular below very steep starting zones that still retain some snow.

The older wind slabs are to be found in particular in gullies and bowls, and behind abrupt changes in the terrain. These can be released by a single winter sport participant in isolated cases at intermediate and high altitudes. The prevalence of these avalanche prone locations will increase in the late morning. As a consequence of warming and solar radiation, the avalanche activity will rapidly increase. More medium-sized to large moist and wet avalanches are possible below approximately 2700 m. This applies in particular in case of releases originating from very steep starting zones that still retain some snow.

Snowpack Structure

The new snow of the weekend has settled to a large extent in particular on sunny slopes and at low and intermediate altitudes. In the last two days small and medium-sized avalanches were observed. The surface of the snowpack will only just freeze and will already soften in the late morning.
