Avalanche Activity

Gradual increase in danger of dry and wet avalanches as a consequence of the precipitation. Avalanches can reach valley bottoms and endanger exposed transportation routes.

Over a wide area heavy precipitation. The number and size of avalanche prone locations will increase as the day progresses. From high-altitude starting zones in particular in the regions exposed to heavier precipitation the avalanches can reach large size and in some places endanger transportation routes, including those situated at relatively low altitudes. This applies especially in the regions with a lot of snow. Increase in danger of moist and wet avalanches until the temperature drops. The conditions are critical for ski touring, freeriding and snowshoe hiking.

Snowpack Structure

Up to intermediate altitudes rain will fall over a wide area. A lot of new snow in the high Alpine regions. As a consequence of new snow and wind, sometimes large wind slabs formed in the last few days. The sleet will give rise to a loss of strength within the snowpack over a wide area in particular at low and intermediate altitudes. These spring-like weather conditions will give rise to unfavourable bonding of the snowpack over a wide area in particular in all altitude zones.
