Folks have been finding decent travel conditions on south facing slopes in the middle of the day, with sun softened snow. Unfortunately, the sun is required for this and we may have more clouds than sunshine on Wednesday. Firm and icy conditions could be dangerous on many steep slopes, and a slip could result in a long slide.
Open creeks and downed trees pose another hazard while traveling through the mountains. Plan your route accordingly.
An impressive storm and resulting avalanche cycle occurred on January 11-13th in the area. While the avalanche danger is low, continue to practice awareness of overhead hazards, and stay tuned to changing weather and snow conditions.
