Avalanche Activity

Forecast Snow Stability: New fresh unstable windslab will develop mainly on North to East to aspects above 800 metres. Minor amounts may also be encountered on both North-West and South-East aspect due to cross loading. Steep wind sheltered locations such as coire rims and gully tops will be most affected, particularly where accumulations develop over old snow. Cornice stability will remain poor. Old snow will become very firm and icy. The avalanche hazard will be Moderate.

Snowpack Structure

Forecast Weather Influences: Precipitation is forecast throughout, heaviest overnight when the freezing level will be just above the summits. By day the freezing level will drop with snowfall easing but falling to around 600 metres. Storm force winds overnight easing to strong gale force. Observed Weather Influences: Limited snowfall overnight followed by a dry and sunny day. The freezing level lifted to around +2 at 900 metres by afternoon. Strong gale force winds, Westerly throughout the day. ObservedSnowStability: New snowfall was largely cosmetic. The old course snow was softening in the sun at lower levels but overall remains firm and well bonded in all locations. Cover is still reasonable above 850 metres on West through North to East aspects. The avalanche hazard is Low.
