A lot of snow fell in the past few hours. Towards its surface, the snowpack is unstable.

Over a wide area 40 to 60 cm of snow, and even more in some localities, fell yesterday above approximately 2000 m. The new snow of yesterday can be released easily or naturally especially on steep sunny slopes. Above approximately 2200 m: The covering of new snow is weak. Avalanches can be released in near-surface layers and reach large size in particular on steep east, southeast and south facing slopes. In particular below approximately 2100 m and on very steep slopes gliding avalanches and moist snow slides are possible as the moisture increases. In the typical avalanche paths the avalanches can in some cases reach the bare valleys.

Over a wide area new snow and wind slabs are lying on a hard crust. The meteorological conditions will bring about a weakening of the near-surface layers as the day progresses in particular on east, south and southwest facing slopes. The sleet will give rise to extreme moistening of the snowpack below approximately 2100 m.

The new snow of the last few days remains for the foreseeable future prone to triggering.
