Lo esencial

The chance persists for skiers and riders to trigger recently developed wind slabs in the upper elevations. At the mid and lower elevations, the snowpack is mostly stable and avalanches are unlikely.

On exposed terrain at the upper elevations, wind slabs formed over the weekend. These slabs appear to be bonding well to old snow surfaces but if traveling into very steep, wind-loaded avalanche terrain there is still a chance of triggering avalanches to depths of 10 inches.

Avalanche Discussion

The northwest flow will bring limited moisture to the region overnight. A trace to an inch of new light density snow could fall at the higher elevations by morning. The moisture in this flow will increase in the afternoon. Skies are expected to be overcast on Thursday with light snow developing and becoming more widespread. Accumulations on an inch are likely by sunset. Temperatures will be in the single digits in the morning and rise into the upper teens and 20s in the afternoon. Winds along the highest ridge lines will be westerly at 15 to 20 miles per hour.At the upper elevations humans who venture into steep avalanche starting zones with fresh deposits of wind-blown snow could trigger pockets of shallow wind slab up to 18 inches in depth. In the Continental Divide/Togwotee Pass and the Southwest Trails/Greys River areas the potential for humans to trigger persistent slabs up to three feet deep may persist and therefore the general avalanche hazard is expected to be MODERATE. The general avalanche hazard in the Teton area is expected to be LOW. Low hazard does not mean there will be no hazard.
