There are several types of avalanches you can trigger out in the mountains today. Multiple nights without a freeze, combined with record-breaking temperatures, have created a wet and unstable snowpack on many slopes. Smaller point-release avalanches can gouge to the ground in saturated, steep terrain, or potentially break out a larger wet slab at higher elevations. Steer clear of steeper sunny terrain, especially around exposed rocky features, by midday or earlier if the snow is unsupportable.
In addition, you might be able to trigger a dangerous slab avalanche on steep north-facing slopes at higher elevations where weak layers are still cold and preserved.
