Yesterdays mornings strong west winds created some shallow isolated pockets of wind slab less than a foot in depth. Todays new snowfall and strong southwest winds along the higher ridge crests will begin to create new soft slabs on leeward aspects. The hazard is anticipated to be on the increase at the higher elevations due to this new slab development. Humans who venture into steep avalanche starting zones with fresh deposits of wind blown snow may be able to trigger pockets of surface slab up to a foot deep. Slopes at the Grand Targhee Resort are closed to the public in preparation for tomorrows opening. Minimal snow cover exist at the lower elevations.
