You can trigger an avalanche in drifted snow at upper elevations. Areas that see more than about 6" of snow are the most dangerous. If you see cracking in the new snow, that's a sign you could trigger an avalanche. The new snow might sluff off some steep slopes, but take care where it drifts into pillows directly below ridges and in gullies. Look for wind sheltered slopes or slopes less than about 35 degrees for safer riding.
