This morning the general avalanche hazard is MODERATE at the upper elevation, LOW at the mid elevation, and MODERATE in the valley. Daily warming could raise the hazard to CONSIDERABLE at all elevations by this afternoon. Below freezing overnight temperatures have temporarily stabilized the snow pack in the mountains, where pockets of slab could be triggered in wind loaded starting zones. As temperatures rise, along with some sunshine, sloughing and wet slide activity will increase throughout the day. As the day progresses, this trend will start at the lower elevations, where overnight temperatures remained above freezing, rise through the mid elevation, and impact the upper elevation on sunlit aspects. Sloughing of the new snow may dig into older rotten snow, entraining large volumes of debris, resulting in a significant hazard to skiers and riders.

A ridge of high pressure currently over the Great Basin will build and shift east moving over Western Wyoming tonight bringing dry conditions through Saturday morning. Overnight lows are expected be near 20 in the mountains, and mid 20s in the valley, before rising to near 40 in upper elevations, and mid 40s down low. Ridge top winds will be Southerly at 10-15 mph.AVALANCHE HAZARD FORECAST FOR THE TETON, TOGWOTEE PASS, AND SOUTHWEST TRAILS AREAS:Tomorrow morning the general avalanche hazard is expected to be LOW at the all elevations, rising to MODERATE with daily warming, and possibly CONSIDERABLE if clear skies prevail. Isolated pockets of slab could still be triggered in wind loaded upper elevation starting zones. Below freezing overnight temperatures will temporarily stabilize the snow pack. Rising temperatures, along with some sunshine, will increase sloughing and wet slide activity throughout the day. This trend will start at the lower elevations, then rise through mid elevation, and later impact the upper elevation on sunlit aspects. Sloughing of the new snow may dig into older rotten snow, entraining large volumes of debris, resulting in a significant hazard to skiers, riders, and commuters.
