The general avalanche hazard is MODERATE. Strong southwesterly to westerly ridgetop winds along with 10 inches of heavy new snow have created dense surface slabs at the higher elevations. These slabs lie upon lighter density snow and strong crusts. Skiers and riders could trigger these slabs to depths of 18 inches on steep, wind loaded slopes. On sunlit aspects, any extended periods of sunshine in the afternoon will make these slabs more susceptible to failure and bring about the possibility of wet loose sluffs at all elevations. Note: This is the last morning advisory of the season for the Southwest Trails / Greys River Area. Afternoon advisories for Western Wyoming will continue through April 17. There, backcountry travelers could trigger dense, dangerous surface slabs up to two feet in depth on steep, wind loaded slopes. In the Togwotee Pass area, the general avalanche hazard is expected to be MODERATE. Skiers and riders could trigger newly developed pockets of soft slab up to a foot deep in steep, wind loaded terrain.
