Avalanche Activity

Often favorable conditions but caution urged on shady steep high altitude slopes

Isolated danger zones occur particularly on shady steep slopes where the snow is shallow and in gullies and transitions from shallow to deep snow. Small-to-medium sized triggerings are possible by large additional loading in particular. In steep grass-covered terrain, especially on sunny slopes but also some shady ones, small-to-medium glide-snow avalanches are possible. Caution below glide cracks. Due to strong weaterly winds, mostly small sized snowdrift accumulations will be generated at high altitudes during the daytime.

Snowpack Structure

The snowpack has settled well and consolidated increasingly. On shady slopes the uppermost layers are still loose or soft, on sunny slopes a crust has often formed which softens during the daytime. On high mostly shady slopes near ridgelines, older snowpack accumulations require attentiveness. In addition, weak layers are evident inside the old snowpack at high altitudes, also at ground level, which avalanches can trigger down to.

Weather Forecast

Ongoing sunshine and outstanding visibility from the summmits. Only the westerly winds will intensify, bothersome in ridgeline terrain. Temperatures receding slightly compared to previous days, but persistently mild. Null-degree level at 2400m. At 2000m: -2 to +2 degrees. Moderate to strong velocity westerly winds in the heights.

Tendency

Until Thursday, no significant changes expected
