Avalanche Activity

As a consequence of new snow and wind, wind slabs formed especially at intermediate and high altitudes.

The new snow and wind slabs can be released easily at intermediate and high altitudes. Along the border with France a considerable avalanche danger will persist in some regions. In isolated cases the avalanches are medium-sized but can be released also by a single winter sport participant. In the regions exposed to heavier precipitation this applies in particular on very steep slopes. Gradual increase in danger of wet avalanches as a consequence of warming during the day.

Snowpack Structure

15 to 20 cm of snow, and even more in some localities, has fallen above approximately 2000 m. In particular at high altitudes and in high Alpine regions there is still a very large amount of snow. The spring-like weather conditions gave rise to increasing settling of the snowpack in particular at low and intermediate altitudes. The rain gave rise on Tuesday to thorough wetting of the snowpack below the tree line.
