Snowpack Structure

Forecast Weather Influences: Strong South-South-Easterly winds will ease to become moderate by dawn and veer South-Westerly during the day. Mostly dry with isolated showers falling as snow only on the higher summits. The freezing level will be around or above the the level of the highest summits. Observed Weather Influences: It was a dry day with strong South-Easterly winds. The freezing level was around 1100 metres. ObservedSnowStability: The snowpack is generally well bonded and stable throughout. There is a dusting of fresh snow on the highest summits where the older snowpack is firm; at lower elevations it is soft and slowly thawing. The avalanche hazard is Low.
