Avalanche Activity

GC9/4 Light scattered snow WNW fresh. localised areas unstable windslab gullies+NE-SE slopes, cornices fragile av hazard Moderate.

Forecast Snow Stability: General snowpack stability will be good but areas of windslab will continue to develop in wind sheltered summit gullies and steep coire headwalls with a mainly North-East to South-East aspect above 900 metres. Stability in these localised areas will remain suspect. With only light scattered snow showers expected these areas are not expected to be deep or extensive. Fresh cornices above lee slopes will be fragile. The avalanche hazard will be Moderate.

Snowpack Structure

Forecast Weather Influences: Light scattered snow showers and mainly fresh to strong West-North-Westerly winds will affect the area. The freezing level overnight will be around 400 metres rising to 700 metres through the day. Observed Weather Influences: A light cover of new snow fell on higher slopes overnight becoming mainly dry by day. Winds have been mainly fresh North-Westerly. The freezing level was around 700 metres. Today has been a bright, mainly sunny and generally quite settled. ObservedSnowStability: A light cover of new snow overnight affected higher slopes in the area. North-Westerly winds initially formed areas of moderately bonded windslab in sheltered gullies and on slopes with a North-East to South-East aspect mainly above 900 metres, through the day stability has improved in many of these areas but in shaded areas such as deeper recessed gullies stability remains suspect. The avalanche hazard is Moderate.
