Avalanche Activity

Weak expression of persistent weak layers.

Still low avalanche danger. Danger spots are located in high altitude northern and eastern expositions. Slab avalanches in extremely steep slopes can’t be ruled out when triggered with high additional loads. The amount of new snow is irrelevant considering the avalanche danger.

Snowpack Structure

The new snow is covering an old snow cover which weakened due to kinetic metamorphosis. In shady slopes the snow cover is loose because of faceting. In exposed areas is can be hard due to the influence of the wind. Little snow in medium and low altitudes.

Weather Forecast

Around noon the mountains in the area of the northern Alps and Tauern are foggy and snowfall starts. 10 cm new snow is expected in higher altitudes. From Turrach tobte foothills it stays dry and little sunny. Westerly to southwesterly winds. Temperatures at noon in 2.000 m are between -3 and -5 degrees .

Tendency

The avalanche danger is not significantly changing.
