Avalanche Activity

As the snowfall becomes more intense the prevalence and size of the avalanche prone locations will increase.

Down to 900 m snow will fall from early morning. The sometimes moderate wind will transport the new snow. This snow as well as the wind slabs to be found above the tree line represent the main danger. The wind slabs can in some cases be released easily, especially on very steep slopes adjacent to ridgelines and in gullies and bowls. Be careful, many rocks hidden by fresh snow.

Snowpack Structure

As a consequence of new snow and a moderate to strong wind, sometimes large wind slabs will form. Above the tree line snow depths vary greatly, depending on the infuence of the wind. In all altitude zones only a small amount of snow is lying for the time of year.
