Avalanche Activity

Forecast Snow Stability: Weaknesses within existing windslab will persist and fresh unstable accumulations will build, both in wind-sheltered terrain above 850 metres. Aspects most affected are North-West through North to South-East with isolated new windslab deposits on Southerly aspects later. Fragile cornices above the same aspects. Wind exposed slopes will be firm and icy with a fresh dusting of snow on top. The avalanche hazard will be Considerable.

Snowpack Structure

Forecast Weather Influences: Overnight snow will clear to leave a dry and bright day. The freezing level will hover around 300 metres. Very strong West-North-Westerly winds will steadily veer North and decrease throughout the day to become light. Observed Weather Influences: Drier for a brief period in the morning before afternoon showers, falling as snow to 400 metres. The freezing level was around 700 metres initially, decreasing rapidly throughout the day. Fresh North-Westerly winds. ObservedSnowStability: The existing windslab has started to consolidate, although weaknesses are still present, primarily above 900 metres on North-West to East aspects. Fresh deposits of unstable windslab are starting to develop in wind-sheltered locations, mostly on East and South-East aspects. On wind exposed slopes, a fresh dusting of new snow lies on top of a firm and icy base. The avalanche hazard is Considerable.
