Lo esencial

At the mid and high elevations loose snow sluffs and soft surface slabs could easily be triggered by backcountry skiers and riders in steep avalanche terrain. These sensitive slabs could have depths to two feet at the high elevations and depths to twelve inches at the mid elevations. Avalanches at low elevations are not expected today except for in isolated pockets.

    Soft sensitive wind slabs with depths to two feet lie in the backcountry. These slabs could be easily triggered in steep terrain and could carry and bury someone caught in them. Yesterday, many small avalanches were reported to have been triggered near Tetons. Some of these slides were close calls, either carrying or partially burying skiers or snowboarders. This morning a slab with possibly an eighteen inch crown was reported to have been triggered by one of the Gazexs on Glory Bowl.

Avalanche Discussion

Instability in a northwest flow will continue to bring snow showers to the mountains. Skies will be partly to mostly cloudy. Accumulations will be spotty but locally heavy, brief snow showers are expected. Temperatures will drop to near zero overnight and rise into the teens to low 20s during the day. Winds will be light and variable.The general avalanche hazard is expected to be MODERATE above an elevation of 7,500 feet. Pockets of surface slab up to two feet in depth could be triggered by the weight of a single person in steep avalanche prone terrain. Avalanches are unlikely at the lower elevations.
