Lo esencial

At mid and higher elevations warm termperatures have hardened the snow surface which is the top layer of hard slabs up to four feet in depth that lie upon a very weak layer of faceted snow and crusts. Unpredictable, dangerous slides on a variety of aspects could be triggered today in the backcountry by the first or later persons on a slope. This type of weakness may remain in the snowpack for extended periods and is particularly prone to realeasing after multiple snowmobile passes. Being caught in even small slides of this type will have serious or fatal consequences. At low elevations, avalanches are unlikely in the shallow snowpack.
