An Avalanche Watch is in effect for the Ruby and Ragged Mountains. The area is expected to reach very dangerous avalanche conditions by Thursday morning.
Wednesday starts with generally safe avalanche conditions. This will quickly change as snow starts to fall and wind drifts additional snow onto leeward slopes. By Wednesday afternoon, you will be able to trigger dangerous slab avalanches on many slopes where you find about a foot or more of new snow facing north and east directions. Seek wind-sheltered terrain in the afternoon for safer travel options, and be aware you might still be able to trigger loose avalanches on very steep, north-facing slopes, so be aware of terrain traps such as gullies or cliffs below you.
