The most dangerous and likely places to trigger an avalanche are on northeast through east to southeast-facing slopes near ridgelines and at upper elevations. Dense slabs have formed on weak snow layers on these aspects around ridges and leeward terrain features. You may also find a similar setup on steep north-facing slopes below treeline. By sticking to lower-angle terrain or seeking out sunnier south-facing slopes, you will reduce your chances of being caught in a slide.
