The few places to use caution are around open slopes and ridgelines where winds have drifted snow into deeper drifts. You could trigger a small slide in one of these areas, where stiffer slabs, 1 to 2 feet deep, have formed. Look for shooting cracks or audible collapses as a warning sign of this problem. Wind-sheltered slopes are an easy option to avoid this problem.
