Avalanche Activity

As a consequence of warming and solar radiation a moderate avalanche danger will prevail. The prevalence of the avalanche prone locations will increase as the day progresses.

As a consequence of warming during the day and the solar radiation, the likelihood of moist and wet avalanches being released will increase gradually in particular on very steep sunny slopes at low and intermediate altitudes. Caution is to be exercised in particular in steep rocky terrain, as well as in areas where the snow cover is rather shallow. Wind slabs are to be found in particular adjacent to ridgelines and in gullies and bowls and generally at elevated altitudes. Caution is to be exercised in particular at transitions from a shallow to a deep snowpack, when entering gullies and bowls for example. Avalanches can be released, in particular by large loads and reach medium size.

Snowpack Structure

As a consequence of rising temperatures and solar radiation a crust will form on the surface during the next few days. These weather conditions as the day progresses will give rise to increasing moistening of the snowpack. This applies in particular on steep sunny slopes in particular at low and intermediate altitudes. The fresh and somewhat older wind slabs are poorly bonded with the old snowpack. Over a wide area wind slabs are lying on the smooth surface of an old snowpack.
