Snowpack Structure

Forecast Weather Influences: Gale force South-South-Easterly winds eased to become fresh to strong and slowly veer to the West through the period. Showers, heaviest in the evening when they will only fall as snow above around 1300 metres, will fall as snow down to around 800 metres during the day. The freezing level will drop from just above the summits to around 1000 metres. Observed Weather Influences: It was a dry day with very strong South-South-Easterly winds. The freezing level was above the summits. ObservedSnowStability: The snowpack is well bonded and stable in all locations. The surface was firm at higher elevations this morning, gradually softening as the temperature rose. Best cover is to be found in high North and East facing corries and gullies. The avalanche hazard is Low.
