Wind slab
- Above 2,200 m
Slab avalanches are the main danger. Whumpfing sounds and shooting cracks when stepping on the snowpack serve as an alarm sign. Very steep, little used slopes are to be evaluated with care and prudence.

As a consequence of new snow and a moderate wind from northerly directions, sometimes deep wind slabs formed adjacent to ridgelines and in gullies and bowls as well as above the tree line. These can in some places be released by a single winter sport participant. Additionally avalanches can also be released in deep layers and reach very large size. The wind slabs are to be avoided in particular in very steep terrain. Maintaining distances between individuals and one-at-a-time descents are recommended. As a consequence of solar radiation moist loose snow slides are possible as the day progresses, but they will be mostly small.
The new snow and wind slabs are poorly bonded with the old snowpack in some places. Avalanche prone weak layers exist in the snowpack in particular on steep, rather lightly snow-covered shady slopes. The weather conditions will facilitate a gradual settling of the snowpack in particular at low and intermediate altitudes.
