Avalanche Activity

Wet snow represents the main danger.

In the late morning the natural avalanche activity will increase. An increasing number of small and medium-sized dry and wet avalanches are to be expected. Especially at high altitudes and in high Alpine regions the wet avalanches can release the wet old snow as well and reach large size in isolated cases. As a consequence of falling temperatures and low relative humidity the snowpack will consolidate in the evening. The Avalanche Warning Service currently has only a small amount of information that has been collected in the high Alpine regions, so that the avalanche danger should be investigated especially thoroughly in the relevant locality.

Snowpack Structure

In the afternoon the weather will be clear at times. The high humditiy will give rise as the day progresses to thorough wetting of the snowpack over a wide area. Over a wide area new snow is lying on a moist old snowpack. These conditions will foster a gradual strengthening of the snowpack towards the evening in all aspects.
