Expect variable snow surfaces in the mountains today. Make a plan that takes into account the current snowpack and your groups ability. Monitor conditions while travelling and change plans if any signs of unstable snow or unexpected conditions are encountered.
Observations and data from across the forecast area indicate the snowpack continues to consolidate and strengthen. Snow surface conditions vary greatly from location to location. Wind exposed areas have firm wind board, exposed rain crust, and scoured surfaces. Melt freeze crusts exist on many southerly aspects with direct sun exposure. Soft unconsolidated snow with near surface facets can be found on shaded terrain with some wind protection. Some wet snow is expected to form today as daytime warming occurs, but any unstable snow is expected to remain small. Recent cloud cover could trap heat causing some moist and sticky snow conditions, especially at mid to lower elevations.
Deep open holes, open creeks, and ponded water persist around the forecast area, mainly below 8,000' in low-lying areas and in isolated distribution at higher elevations.
