Lo esencial

Avalanches large enough to bury or injure a rider will continue to be unlikely, but it will be possible to trigger small Wet Loose avalanches that could knock a rider off their feet.  These small avalanches are most likely on steep South slopes.  Time your riding so that the snow is soft enough for pleasant riding but not so slushy that Wet Loose avalanches become a problem.  When in doubt, choose cooler, shadier slopes.

    On Wednesday, daytime high temperatures near treeline could reach 50 F.  This will be the warmest day that we've seen in a while and it will be possible to trigger small Wet Loose avalanches.  This problem will be confined to steep, South slopes.  Assess the depth of melting, slushy snow before committing to large steep slopes or slopes with terrain traps.  Even small Wet Loose avalanches can be surprisingly forceful, and easily knock a rider off their feet.  Often on these days I like to choose objectives where I have a variety of aspects to choose from.  Having options ensures the best, safe riding.

April 30th will be the last daily avalanche forecast that we issue for the 2024/25 season!  Thank you to everyone for your support of the avalanche center.  I appreciate all of our members, regular public observers, volunteers, commercial sponsors, and regular readers!  As a non-profit, we are completely reliant upon our community.  Thank you and I am already looking forward to shorter days and those first flakes of snow next season (maybe that's just me though)!
