Avalanche Activity

CM for 15/3/22 Localised accumulations of fresh windslab will build above 850m, on mainly N to E aspects. Avalanche Hazard Moderate.

Forecast Snow Stability: Further localised quantities of new windslab will build in wind-sheltered areas, mainly on North to East aspects; around coire rims and gully tops above 850 metres. Where accumulations gain depth, stability will be poor. The existing spring snowpack elsewhere will be generally well bonded and stable. The avalanche hazard will be Moderate.

Snowpack Structure

Forecast Weather Influences: A Freezing Level of around 800 metres will lower overnight to around 600 metres. Further snow showers will affect summit elevations during the period. The strong South-South-Westerly airflow will ease and become West-South-Westerly overnight. Observed Weather Influences: Precipitation overnight fell as snow showers to around summit elevations, thereafter it has been a mainly dry and mild day. Winds have been strong South-Westerly. ObservedSnowStability: Localised, shallow areas of windslab exist in highest wind-sheltered areas, mainly on North to East aspects, above 900 metres. Elsewhere the existing snowpack is generally well bonded and stable. The avalanche hazard is Low
