Avalanche Activity

Forecast Snow Stability: The old moist snowpack will refreeze overnight. New weakly bonded windslab will form and begin to gain depth on steep North to East aspects above 900m. Weak cornice development anticipated above steepest lee slopes of the same aspects. Good stability in all other locations. The avalanche hazard will be Moderate.

Snowpack Structure

Forecast Weather Influences: Wet and mild overnight then cooler from midnight with persistent showers of snow above 900m, later 800m. Very strong South-West, later West-South-West winds. Observed Weather Influences: Cold and dry overnight then milder during the day. Precipitation during the day was briefly wintry over summits during the morning, turning to occasional light rain showers later. Strong South West winds. ObservedSnowStability: The patchy snowpack is moist and firm at all altitudes and well stabilised throughout. Largest expanses of old snow lie on North West through North to North East aspects above 800m but lower in some favoured gullies. The avalanche hazard is Low.
