Avalanche Activity

In particular very steep sunny slopes base of rock walls: The danger of moist and wet avalanches will already increase in the late morning.

The surface of the snowpack will freeze to form a strong crust and will soften during the day. In particular very steep sunny slopes and base of rock walls: As a consequence of warming during the day and solar radiation more medium-sized to large wet avalanches are to be expected as the day progresses. Below approximately 2600 m moist avalanches can penetrate even deep layers, this also applies on very steep grassy slopes. Backcountry tours should be started and concluded early. Individual weak layers exist in the centre of the snowpack. In addition the wind slabs of recent weeks are prone to triggering in isolated cases still. They are easy to recognise and can only be released by large loads in most cases, caution is to be exercised in particular at transitions from a shallow to a deep snowpack, when entering gullies and bowls for example. In particular here the avalanches can be released in the old snow and reach quite a large size.

Snowpack Structure

Outgoing longwave radiation during the night will be good. The surface of the snowpack will freeze to form a strong crust and will soften during the day. The spring-like weather conditions from the late morning will give rise to increasing moistening of the snowpack in particular on steep sunny slopes below approximately 3000 m. The weather conditions fostered a stabilisation of the snow drift accumulations in particular on sunny slopes. In its middle, the snowpack is unfavourably layered. Adjacent to ridgelines and in pass areas snow depths vary greatly, depending on the infuence of the wind. There are large frames on the crest. Numerous medium-sized to large moist avalanches have been released in the last few days.

Tendency

The danger of natural wet avalanches will decrease gradually.
