Lo esencial

Cooling temperatures on Tuesday will diminish the possibilty of wet avalanches.  Very steep slopes below treeline may produce small Wet Loose avalanches during the first half of the day, but there isn't much snow at these lower elevations and it is hard to imagine avalanches large enough to bury or injure a rider.  Even with low hazard, it is prudent to carry avalanche rescue gear and use thoughtful travel techniques when riding or climbing in avalanche terrain.

    Snow levels will start the day around 7000 ft.  This means that slopes below treeline will be getting rain for the first half of the day.  There isn't a ton of snow at these lower elevations, and what is there was already pretty wet on Monday.  Wet Loose avalanches aren't out of the question for very steep slopes at these low elevations.  Any wet instabilities will most likely be small.

Avalanche Discussion

Our season is still hanging in there.  Snowmobile trails out to Moon Mountain and Ball Butte are still snow covered, but I don't expect it will last long.  This little bit of cooler weather in the forecast will buy us a couple of extra days.

Today the riding near treeline and even into the alpine was poor due to sticky "mashed potato" snow by midday.  The highest elevation slopes (above 8,000 ft or so) rode well.  I didn't see any signs of wet avalanche activity from today, but did see a few D1 Wet Loose slides from the weekend.
