Avalanche Activity

CM for 30.12 Old patchy snowpack generally stable. Minor full depth avalanche potential. Some new windslab late pm on SE-S. Haz Low

Forecast Snow Stability: The old patchy snowpack will generally be stable in most locations, though in the very wet conditions there will be some residual potential for minor full depth avalanches on steep slopes above 750 metres. From mid-afternoon some fresh windslab will be deposited in wind sheltered locations, mainly on South-East and South aspects above 900 metres. Accumulations gaining depth are not expected to be extensive. The avalanche hazard will be Low.

Snowpack Structure

Forecast Weather Influences: Heavy rain overnight and during the morning, with the freezing level above the summits. After midday it is expected to be much drier, with the freezing level lowering to around 1000 metres by mid-afternoon. Winds will be gale force West-South-Westerly until late morning; thereafter they will ease and gradually veer to light Northerly by mid-afternoon. Observed Weather Influences: It was another mild day with the freezing level above the summits. Light rain at all levels. Winds were gale force South-Westerly. ObservedSnowStability: The remaining patchy snowpack continues to thaw and diminish at all levels, and is generally stable in most locations. The avalanche hazard is Low.
