Avalanche Activity

NC for 26.3: Unstable windslab, steep, convex SE to SW asp. abv. 900m. Isolated on E and NW asp. Fragile cornices. Moderate Hazard.

Forecast Snow Stability: Localised windslab will develop throughout the forecast period on South-East to South-West aspects above 900 metres. East and North-West aspects also affected, but accumulations will be more isolated. The greatest instability will be where depth is achieved in steep and convex locations, particularly around coire rims, crag aprons, and gully exits. On these aspects cornices will be fragile. The avalanche hazard will be Moderate.

Snowpack Structure

Forecast Weather Influences: A mainly dry night with moderate Easterly winds. Light snow showers throughout the day on strong Northerly winds. The freezing level will gradually fall from 600 to 400 metres. Observed Weather Influences: Snowfall cleared to leave a dry day with some sunny spells around midday. Moderate Northerly winds eased to light. The freezing level was around 900 metres. ObservedSnowStability: There is a few centimetres of new snow on all aspects. This overlies a widespread friable crust. Localised accumulations of windslab have developed on South-East to South-West aspects above 950 metres. In general this is beginning to consolidate; however instabilities were observed within deeper accumulations in areas of steep and convex terrain. The avalanche hazard is Moderate.
