Avalanche Activity

NC for 30.1: Isolated windslab on NE to SE aspects above 900m, especially coire rims, gully tops. Fragile cornices. Low Haz.

Forecast Snow Stability: The old snowpack will become very firm well bonded and stable throughout. Isolated accumulations of unstable windslab will develop on North-East to South-East aspects above 900 metres. These are not expected to be deep or extensive and mostly confined to wind sheltered locations such as coire rims, scarp slopes, gully exits and crag aprons. Small fragile cornices will develop on the same aspects. The avalanche hazard will be Low.

Snowpack Structure

Forecast Weather Influences: Snow showers during the night on storm force Westerly winds. This will clear to leave a dry day, winds will ease to strong. Cold temperatures; the 600 metre freezing level will rise to 800 metres by the end of the day. Observed Weather Influences: Rain at all levels on storm force Westerly winds. The freezing level was above the summits. ObservedSnowStability: The snowpack is thawing at all altitudes and is well bonded and stable throughout. Widespread patches remain on most aspects above 800 metres, including coire back walls and the plateau. Slumping unstable cornices were observed on Northerly aspects. The avalanche hazard is Low.
