Avalanche Activity

CM for 10/02/23 Weak windslab and cornices - N, NE, E, SE aspects above 850m. Better stability later. Avalanche hazard Considerable.

Forecast Snow Stability: Unstable windslab on steep North through East to South-East aspects above 850 metres. Period of poorest stability when snowfall transitions to rain and milder temperatures at all levels. Weak, collapse prone cornices above most steep lee slopes. Improvement in overall stability anticipated later in the day. The avalanche hazard will be Considerable.

Snowpack Structure

Forecast Weather Influences: Light overnight snowfall turning to rain at all levels from morning onwards. Moderate to strong West-South-West winds. Initially cold, but much milder from early hours onwards. Observed Weather Influences: Cold overnight with persistent, occasionally heavy snow showers. Strong West later West-North-West airflow. Less cold later. ObservedSnowStability: Weak windslab on steep, sheltered North-East through East to South-East aspects above 800 metres. Triggered dry slab avalanche activity reported in Raeburns Gully, Coire Ardair late morning. Collapse prone cornices above steepest lee slopes and recent debris noted. Better stability at lower altitudes and on recently scoured aspects. The avalanche hazard is Considerable.
