The general avalanche hazard is LOW, which does not mean no hazard exists. Yesterdays temperatures warmed and then cooled significantly, further strengthening the surface snow. Overnight a few inches of snow fell on the mostly stable snowpack. Today skiers and riders could start small surface sluffs in very steep terrain. Avalanches below 9,000 feet are not expected today.

( Discussion is generated from the previous day's afternoon forecast. )This system is to bring additional snowfall overnight and through Wednesday afternoon, particularly in the Teton and Togwotee Pass areas, with moisture exiting the Southwest trails area earlier in the day. Cold air associated with this system could bring snow levels to the valley floors. By mid afternoon Wednesday four to eight inches of snow could fall in the upper elevations. High temperatures are to be in the mid twenties at higher elevations and the mid thirties at the low elevations. Winds are to be westerly to northwesterly with twenty to thirty mile per hour averages. The general avalanche hazard is expected to be Low on Wednesday. Avalanches involving the old or recent snow are not expected however new snow could present a new cycle of springtime avalanche concerns with loose snow avalanches and shallow winds slabs developing. The size and likelihood of this activity will depend on the amount of snowfall and wind received and if significant accumulations occur the hazard could elevate to Moderate on Wednesday from 9000 to 10500 feet.
