Over two feet of new snow with over an inch of moisture has fallen at the mid and upper elevations in the past two days. Southwest winds increased overnight at all elevations creating sensitive soft slabs to three feet in depth. Travel in avalanche terrain is not recommended at the upper elevations. At the mid elevations dangerous avalanche conditions exist on steep northerly aspects and in the tracks of upper elevation avalanche paths. Excellent terrain evaluation skills are essential for safe travel in avalanche terrain. Saturday and yesterday large, dangerous avalanches were triggered by cornice drops and remotely by skiers. Skiers released a slide in Avalanche Bowl south of Teton Pass yesterday and WYDOT released slides in Glory Bowl early this morning.

Strong, 40 mile per hour average southwest winds will continue through Tuesday with light snow and temperatures rising only into the low teens.The general avalanche hazard is expected to be CONSIDERABLE Tuesday. Large, dangerous hard-slab avalanches to five feet in depth could be easily released by humans who venture onto steep terrain that has received ample drifting snow at mid and upper elevations. Careful route finding and avalanche hazard avoidance skills will be required for travel in the backcountry.
