Fresh wind slabs represent the main danger. As a consequence of warming during the day moist loose snow avalanches are to be expected, even medium-sized ones. Gliding snow requires caution.
Fresh wind slabs are to be evaluated critically. In addition an increasing number of medium-sized loose snow avalanches are to be expected.
As a consequence of new snow and a strong to storm force wind, further wind slabs will form. These can be released easily by a single winter sport participant in particular on steep west, north and east facing slopes. Caution is to be exercised in particular in gullies and bowls, and behind abrupt changes in the terrain. The prevalence of avalanche prone locations and likelihood of triggering will increase with altitude. Medium-sized and, in isolated cases, large natural avalanches are possible especially in the regions exposed to heavier precipitation. This applies in particular on very steep shady slopes adjacent to ridgelines at elevated altitudes. More frequent loose snow avalanches are to be expected, even medium-sized ones, in the event of prolonged bright spells especially. In addition a latent danger of gliding avalanches exists. This applies on steep grassy slopes below approximately 2600 m. Mostly avalanches are medium-sized. Areas with glide cracks are to be avoided. Backcountry touring calls for experience and a certain restraint.
20 to 40 cm of snow, and up to 50 cm in some localities, fell on Wednesday. Up to 10 cm of snow, and even more in some localities, will fall on Thursday. The wind will be strong to storm force. Fresh and somewhat older wind slabs are lying on soft layers in particular on west to north to east facing aspects at elevated altitudes.
