The weak layer of surface hoar that was buried about two weeks ago is still on our radar, although it is becoming less and less likely that it will still produce an avalanche. We have seen evidence of some avalanches that may have failed on this layer during last week's storm, but the last known human-triggered avalanche on this layer was over a week ago. While it is becoming less likely, we still haven't ruled it out entirely. This will be something to assess before committing to steep consequential terrain. You may be able to identify it in a snowpit, or it may give you a clear warning sign like a collapse.
If you were to find a spot where the layer is still reactive, it would most likely be at elevations above 3000' on slopes that tend to be sheltered from the winds. It should be about 2' deep, and if it is still reactive it would most likely be in isolated pockets. We haven't been able to find it in snowpits following the holiday storm, and we aren't aware of any fresh activity on the layer. If you have seen otherwise, please take a minute to let us know!
Dry Loose: The most recent lower-density snow has been making dry loose avalanches (sluffs) in steep terrain, especially at elevations below 2500' to 3000' where it fell on an older crust. Keep this in mind if you are headed into steep terrain, and be careful not to get caught in a dry loose avalanche as it builds volume and speed.
Cornice Fall: The winds over the past week have made large overhanging cornices in many areas. These can catch people by surprise by failing much further back from the ridge than expected. Be sure to give them plenty of space as you travel along ridgetops, and spend as little time as possible traveling below them.

Cornices are large on many ridges. In most places, this is most likely the biggest hazard you may encounter during the day.
