    I continue to experience lots of collapsing (whoomping sounds) while traveling around on skis. This is a Persistent Weak Layer of sugary faceted snow that is buried and is failing when disturbed by my weight. I have been on low angle slopes when this occurs but if I were on steeper slopes, they would avalanche. This scenario is going to continue to be a problem for us over the next few weeks as more storms roll through.

Snow and Weather

Current Conditions: Total snow depths are averaging right around three feet in the higher terrain. Riding conditions are excellent with fresh powder on the surface. You'll find a few melt-freeze crusts that formed yesterday from the direct sun on the more southerly facing slopes. Temperatures have been in the upper teens and the wind speed has been light from the southwest.

Mountain Weather: We have a few clouds moving through this morning but should see the sun poke out in the mountains this afternoon. You might notice a slight bump in wind speeds today but overall they'll be light to moderate from the west southwest. Saturday and Sunday look partly cloudy with warmer temperatures. A large low pressure system is going to move through starting late Sunday lasting through Monday night. While this is a large storm system, I don't think we are going to see huge snow amounts. We'll see two periods of snow, one Sunday night and another late Monday night. Currently I'm thinking 4 to 8 inches total seems reasonable by Tuesday morning. The pattern still looks active with more storms lined up over the next few weeks.
