Lo esencial

LOW avalanche danger exists at all elevations.  Partially cloudy skies should keep slopes with southerly exposure from softening as much as they did yesterday. However, pay attention to variations in local conditions and if slopes become unsupportable recognize the potential for initiating small loose-wet slides particularly on steep S-SW facing slopes at lower elevations near rockbands.

Mild temperatures and lack of recent snowfall has led to a transitional spring-like snowpack on slopes with southerly exposure (SE-S-SW).  Many of these slopes became moist to the ground yesterday even at high elevations.  A good overnight refreeze and partly cloudy skies should keep slopes with southerly exposure from melting to the extent that they did yesterday. Decreasing clouds in the afternoon however could mean that loose-wet concerns could develop on SW-S facing slopes later in the day, particularly at lower elevations near rockbands. If you are sinking in deeply to wet snow,  seek shadier aspects.

Avalanche Discussion

Northerly slopes have remained wintery and cold, atleast up until today. While the cloud cover expected today should keep slopes with southerly exposure from melting as much, the clouds effect of keeping in warmth will likely lead to sticky manky snow on lower elevation northerly facing slopes.

Firm and variable conditions abound.  Frozen slopes and firm windboards make crampons and an ice ax important tools to consider for travel in steeper terrain.
