Above 7,500 feet, skiers and riders still have some potential to trigger large to very large, recently developed wind slabs in very steep, leeward terrain. Some potential may remain for these slabs to step down to persistent weak layers of faceted snow near the base of the snowpack. Below 7,500 feet, backcountry travelers might be able to trigger small, isolated pockets of wind slab on very steep isolated terrain features that have been recently wind loaded. If skies become mostly sunny as the day progresses, these slabs may become more susceptible to failure on sunlit aspects lower down, and the chance for shallow wet slides could also develop on low elevation, sunlit slopes.

    Settlement rates continue to decrease with most weather stations showing between two and four inches of settlement in the last 24 hours. With no significant faceted weak layers in the upper portion of the snowpack, the recently developed wind slabs are in the process of stabilizing. On very steep, wind loaded slopes above 7,500 feet, human triggered wind slabs ranging in depth from one to three feet remain possible.

    Some possibility might remain for persistent deep slab avalanches to be triggered in areas where the snowpack is on the shallower end of the spectrum. If one of these large to very large avalanches were to occur, they would more likely be stepping down from the release of a wind slab or triggered by a cornice drop. With depths ranging from three to six feet, involvement in one of these destructive avalanches could easily result in a fatality.

( Discussion is generated from the previous day's afternoon forecast. )Another cold front will drop down from the north late tonight and into Monday. With limited moisture, only an inch or two of new snow is expected. Cloud cover will increase as the front moves through the region. Overnight lows in the mountains will be near zero before rising into the mid-teens during the day. Ridgetop winds will veer to the north and increase to 15 to 25 miles per hour.With decreasing settlement rates and the absence of any significant faceted layers in the upper portion of the snowpack, the general avalanche hazard is expected to be Moderate above 7,500 feet on Monday. In very steep, wind loaded terrain, skiers and riders still have the potential of triggering recently developed wind slabs with depths ranging from one to four feet. Below 7,500 feet, backcountry travelers might be able to trigger an isolated pocket of wind slab up to 18 inches deep on very steep isolated terrain features that have been recently wind loaded.In the Southwest Trails and Togwotee Pass forecast zones, some potential might remain for persistent deep slab avalanches to be triggered in areas where the snowpack is on the shallower end of the spectrum. If one of these large to very large avalanches were to occur, they would more likely be stepping down from the release of a wind slab or triggered by a cornice drop.
