LO for 13/03 Fresh snow and strong winds. Windslab developing W,NW,N,NE above 1000m. Cornices. Avalanche hazard will be Moderate.

Forecast Snow Stability: Fresh unstable windslab will continue to develop in wind sheltered locations. Greatest accumulations will be on West through North to North-East aspects above 1000 metres. Fragile cornices will develop above these aspects. Elsewhere the snowpack will be generally stable. At lower elevations a gradual thaw will continue. The avalanche hazard will be Moderate.

Forecast Weather Influences: Precipitation will be heaviest overnight with showers falling as snow above 1000 metres, showers becoming lighter and less frequent during the day. The freezing level will be around 1100 metres. Winds will be very strong South-Easterly. Observed Weather Influences: Showers throughout the day turned to snow above 850 metres as the freezing level dropped. The freezing level fell to around 900 metres. Moderate Southerly winds increased to strong and veered South-South-Westerly. ObservedSnowStability: The existing snowpack is well bonded and stable in most locations. Localised deposits of fresh unstable windslab are developing in steep wind sheltered locations mainly on North-West to North-East aspects above 1000 metres. Gully tops and coire rims are most affected. Fragile cornices are building above these aspects. The avalanche hazard is Moderate.
