Avalanche Activity

NC, 3/4. Windslab developing during afternoon, mainly onto N,NE,E,SE aspects above 950 metres. Stable elsewhere. Moderate hazard.

Forecast Snow Stability: Localised deposits of fresh unstable windslab will develop through the day, mainly on North through East to South-East aspects above 950 metres. Areas most affected will be steep wind sheltered terrain such as gully tops and coire rims. Deposits are only expected to gain significant depth during the afternoon, as the wind speed increases and snow is redistributed. Elsewhere the snowpack will be generally stable. The avalanche hazard will be Moderate.

Snowpack Structure

Forecast Weather Influences: After a dry morning showers will develop in the afternoon, initially snow above 700 metres turning to rain at all levels by the end of the afternoon. West-South-Westerly winds will be light in the morning gradually increasing to strong during the afternoon. The freezing level will rise above the summits towards the end of the afternoon. Observed Weather Influences: A dry calm day. Early morning cloud cleared to give a sunny afternoon. ObservedSnowStability: Weaknesses that remain in deeper windslab accumulations on South-East to South-West aspects above 1000 metres are gradually consolidating. Accumulations are generally confined to steep wind sheltered terrain such as gully tops and coire rims. Elsewhere there is a covering of soft but stable snow. The avalanche hazard is Moderate.
