Avalanche Activity

NC for 14/4/22 Snowpack thawing and generally well bonded on all apsects. Cornices prone to collapse. Avalanche Hazard will be Low.

Forecast Snow Stability: The diminishing snowpack will continue to thaw and consolidate, remaining generally well bonded. Some minor surface instabilities will be present on steeper slopes, especially around gully tops and coire rims. The greatest cover remaining on North-East through East to South facing aspects and on the highest plateau areas. Remaining cornices will be prone to collapse. The avalanche hazard will be Low.

Snowpack Structure

Forecast Weather Influences: Winds will be moderate, initially from the North-West backing during the day to Southerly by the afternoon. The freezing level will be above the summits with no significant precipitation expected. Observed Weather Influences: Overnight precipitation turned from sleet on the highest summits to rain showers at all levels. Winds were moderate North-Westerlies, which eased slightly during the day. The freezing level was above the summits. ObservedSnowStability: The snowpack is soft and thawing at all levels. It is generally well bonded and stable on most aspects. Some minor wet snow surface instabilites were present on the steepest slopes. The avalanche hazard is Low.
