Heavy snow on Saturday night results in dangerous avalanche conditions where you find fresh slabs of drifted snow. Avoid steep slopes with recent wind drifts. You can trigger large avalanches in these places.
A surface avalanche could step down to deeper weak layers in areas where you find old hard slabs. You can reduce your chances of triggering a deeper slide by avoiding rocky areas, traveling where the snowpack is consistently deep, and checking for older hard slabs concealed beneath new snow.
