Lo esencial

The general avalanche danger is CONSIDERABLE today. Recent snowfall and strong winds have formed soft slabs up to two feet in depth in steep wind loaded avalanche paths and gullies. These slabs are likely to be easily triggered today or could release naturally if significant warming occurs. If triggered these slabs have some potential to step down to deeper weaker layers. During the past week numerous close calls have occured in the Tetons and one young snowmobiler died in an avalanche near Victor, Idaho. Self rescue skills and equipment are essential for travel in avalanche prone terrain.
