Avalanche Summary

The most dangerous slopes face northwest through north to east at all elevations. Here, any avalanche you trigger will likely be large enough to break trees and can easily bury you. You likely won't see any signs of instability, such as cracking or collapsing, in the snow before you trigger one of these avalanches. You might be able to travel across a slope multiple times before finding the trigger point and bringing the whole slope down on top of you. Tracks on a slope do not mean it's safe. The easiest way to reduce your chances of being caught in what will probably be an unsurvivable avalanche is to avoid traveling on or directly under large, steep slopes that face west through north to southeast.
